Ever notice something familiar about the Seven Deadly Sins? How about the fact that each one defines human nature? It irks me to be downcasted because of the very human nature I inherited from my ancestors, their ancestors, and the ancestors before that.
Pride: In almost every list Pride is considered the original or most serious sin. Excessive vanity and love of one's self.
Everyone has pride, and if we didn't, there would still be blatant oppression in the United States today. (I'm not saying that there isn't, now...) Take for example, Martin Luther Kind Jr. He even apologized to God for not letting Him handle the situation of segregation. But due to his pride as a strong, black man, he helped America overcome the racial divide through civil disobedience.
Avarice: Also known as Greed. Greed is, like Lust and Gluttony, a sin of excess.
If it wasn't for the British's hunger for land, none of us would be here today. Well, except for the Native Americans whom rightfully belong. And if the 13 colonies hadn't existed, where would we be now? Still under British rule? Or worse - Some sort of dictatorship? If Britain didn't hold that greedy need for land, you wouldn't be sitting in front of your computer today.
Lust: Lust is best described as depraved thought, unwholesome morality, desire for excitement, or need to be accepted or recognized by others.
Ooookaaaaaaaay. Long story short, we need to make them babehs.
Envy: Those who commit the sin of Envy desire something that someone else has.
It happens all the time in America - the envy of spotlight. Some envy the rich, other's just envy the fame. One has to admit, people are driven by lust and envy.
Gluttony: Modern views identify Gluttony as being associated with an overindulgence of food and drink, though in the past any form of thoughtless excess could fall within the definition of this sin.
Hrm...All I can say for this one is...DAMN! America's got some booty!
Wrath: Inappropriate feelings of hatred and anger.
Would we have any nationalistic/patriotic spirit with out it? Take Pearl Harbor! The Japanese bombed it and incurred our wrath, and then we nuked 'em. "That'll show you, Nagasaki and Hiroshima!"
Sloth: More than other sins, the definition of Sloth has changed considerably since its original inclusion in the list. It has been characterized as what modern thinkers would describe as apathy, depression, and joylessness - the latter being considered a refusal to enjoy the goodness of God and the world he created.
Oooooookiiieeee...So I'm gonna be oppressed because I have a chemical imbalance that makes me depressed?
None of this is saying that it only happens in America; it is entirely possible, and has happened in all sorts of places througout the world. Now, my question is this, are the Seven Deadly Sins really so deadly?
Well, I think that's about enough for now. Kiss kiss, loves!
